when it comes to sewing, most times this chickadee prefers to wing it. inspiration becomes an idea, which permutates into a plan that is hopefully hastily plotted out on paper before the scissors start to snip and the stitches are sewn. mistakes, missteps and miscues are the forces that feed the fires around here.
but to everything there is a season, and a time to balance intuition with reason. for the self-taught sewer like me, patterns provide structure and teach function. following one is almost like taking a class because there is much to be learned from someone who has taken the time to plot out and patiently explain their process.
in the spirit of learning new things, this chickadee embarked on a new adventure when a lovely a-line apron pattern presented itself. from the mind of meg mcelwee and montessori by hand, the emmeline apron was engaging right from the start. constructing this apron was almost like making a dress. the instructions were so clear that my usual patternphobia, which surfaced at the very beginning, quickly dissipated never to reappear.
