stocking stuffers

as previously mentioned, there's still quite a lot of activity here at the chickadee outpost of santa's workshop. this chickadee's little helper, bernie the bernette 65, is stitching up some last minute special orders especially for some special people. we're staying mum about the who's, but it seems safe to show a few of the what's:

ferngully

i know a secret down in this chickadee's cabin, know a secret that i just can't tell...

you might be shocked to learn that these were the original lyrics for the warrant song uncle tom's cabin. not only did they pen such perennial favorites as "cherry pie," they also predicted the pattern of the latest chickadee repurposed table linens.

here's a nod to traditional quilting with my own made-up sort of log cabin pattern. if it was a real cabin, you might not want to live in it. just ask that old math teacher of mine.

she comes in colors

the next set of table linens are a tribute to a former teacher of mine. when i was quilting the abstract triangular pattern on them i couldn't help but think of my old high school geometry/calculus teacher who famously said that he would vote for me for president but he wouldn't drive across a bridge that i'd built. a wiser man there never was. i wonder if he'd sit down to dinner at a table set with linens that i'd built out of repurposed fabric and rainbow thread?

here's an up-close look at the variegated thread. isn't it purty?

for those of you out there who know that it really is all about geometry, here's a little humor:

q: why couldn't the trig function get a loan?

a: because the tangent wouldn't cosine.

go team(s)!

sit down to dinner with the nfc and afc from back in the day! (sorry titans/panthers fans, your teams are too young to make this cut). one look at these linens and you'll want to do the superbowl shuffle. pass those peas. drop back for seconds. go for the extra point with a delicious dessert. all the time we've got your lap and your table covered. and if the conversation drags, you can always make a mini football out of a coaster and kick a quick field goal through knife and fork uprights.
